    Description

Up for auction for the advanced collector is a rare 1860s Telegraph Morse Code "camelback" style Key And Sounder. It is in beautiful condition and would make a crowning completion to a collection of early telegraph instruments. This set includes a camelback key (one of the earliest styles of telegraph key). This design originated in the 1850s and was fairly standardized by the early 1860s.
It retains it's original hard rubber or gutta percha composition key operating and circuit closer knobs. The original finish is preserved throughout. This is rare as usually metal parts have patina or owners had tried to clean them over the years. Not with this set! This is exactly how you would have found this during the Civil War years.
All iron/steel parts have their japan finish and original gold pinstriping and scrollwork. Do not let a piece of history such as this slip through your hands!
Both pieces are mounted to a wooden base, making it known as a "key-on-board" or "KOB" set. Portable telegraph sets were favored by telegraphers who traveled from place to place. The sounder is stamped with the manufacture name: Jerome Redding Company, Boston, Mass.,   4 ohms (which indicates the sounder coil resistance).
The sounder has been electrically tested for continuity and functionality. It works well on 3 volts. Finding a complete set from this time period in this condition is near impossible. Don't miss out! Please see photos for item specifics.
Winning bidder will pay 35.00 for very careful packing and shipping through USPS Priority Mail which includes both tracking  and insurance. I have found this to be the safest method of shipping. This will only be shipped to continental u.s.a. No international bidders please. All items are sold as-is and as antiques. No returns. Good luck and happy bidding!
