    Description

Here is a diminutive little girl who has seen some history.  She came to us in quite a state and we tried to help her along by mounting her on a more stable body.  It is German, and filled with horsehair, much like her other one but without the bug holes and tons of dust pouring from it!  YUCK!  And her poor little mohair wig had been munched on by creatures unknown so THAT went out with the body in the garbage!  Her little face shows the wear of her years, we know, and usually, papier mache responds nicely to touch-ups with oil based pastels, but it was either reacting to the dirt on her face already, or her surface was just too far gone to take anything but a good old fashioned cleaning, then paint job.  Since my illness has my hands shaking too much nowadays, I would even think of trying such a project.  This is best left to someone who knows and works regularly with this medium.  I was able to get a new wig, sorry it had to be RED, but I am running out of small wigs right now as I have had an influx of small doll through here and no great buys on little mohair or human hair wigs.  Guess I will have to break down and LEARN to make the darn things.  Getting back to our little mite, she does need some touching up on her face around the chin area but the actual papier mache seems solid and is not pulpy at all.  Her little body is very sturdy and bends to a sitting position easily or can stand with help.  She wears pantalettes and has sewn on dark stockings.  I haven't found shoes for her as yet.  Her pink satin dress is clean and freshly iron.  It has pretty white lace tatted trim.  The sleeves have been stuffed to better fit her papier mache arms.  She wears a little twig wreath of ribbons and white and blue flowers with some yellow berries mixed in.  She looks so adorable!
