Big 28” Papier Mache Head Antique Doll. This big ole doll Sabin my 93 year old MILs Bed. She has the biggest bulging blue paperweight glass eyes. Her brown human hair.... or maybe mohair wig has winglets and it had a smocked bonnet that kept the hair nice. The smocked bonnet shows display soiling and needs to be cleaned. The body is clan, it’s leather lower arms. The clothing is old. The dress is a printed blue voile with a black braiding around the neck. The under garments have layers of eyelet lace, knitted lace and tatted lace. The undergarments also show display soiling and need to be cleaned. She has on rayon knee l nothing socks and antique leather shoes. The shoes may even be real children’s shoes. She wears a coral heart necklace around her neck and has an old gold barrette on the side of her hair at her temple. My quick research found that paper mache head dolls were popular in the mid 1850s. I found no marks on the back of her shoulders or head. The only examples I found in this large size was made by M & S Superior in Sonneberg, Germany, as they had kid leather arms. This lady deserves lots more research to find our exactly who made her. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
