    You are admiring an amazing "Bear's Paw Clam" also known as a Hippopus hippopus (Linne, 1758) measuring 104.3mm (or a 4+" span on each valve)...very unique form along with an incredible color pattern & markings are displayed.  A member of the very cool Tridacnidae family which includes all the Giant Clams & an outstanding display shell for your collection. This family is limited to the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region. These large clams rest on the bottom of the sea with the hinge down and the gaping edge up so that the sunlight may reach the huge rolled edges of the mantle...algae food is grown in that fleshy mantle.  There are fewer than a dozen species of these giant clams, the largest reaching a weight of 500lbs.  Thank you for visiting our store this afternoon...and an excellent choice, too.
